Breaking In Your JK BootsUpdated a month ago

Congratulations on your new pair of JK Boots! You've invested in footwear renowned for its exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and durability. We use the finest oil-tanned, full-grain leather, including our incredibly tough yet supple bison leather, to create boots ready for anything, from battling wildfires to tackling tough jobs in any weather. Properly breaking them in ensures years of comfort and optimal performance.

The JK Difference:

Our oil-tanned leather is robust and durable, yet it develops a beautiful patina and unique character with wear. This, combined with our robust triple-stitched construction, means your JK Boots require a dedicated break-in period. But trust us, the result is worth the wait!

Did you choose bison leather? You're in for a treat! Bison leather is incredibly soft and supple, offering a reduced break-in period compared to our steer hide boots, but it's also more durable. You'll be amazed by its combination of comfort and resilience.

Embrace the Journey:

Consider breaking in your JK Boots as a journey to develop a unique bond with your footwear. The leather will gradually mold to your feet as you wear them, creating a custom fit that provides unparalleled comfort and support.

Tips for a Smooth Break-in:

  1. Condition, Condition, Condition:  Before your first wear and regularly thereafter, apply a generous amount of high-quality leather conditioner or boot oil. This nourishes the leather, keeping it supple and accelerating the break-in process. Pay close attention to the tongue and vamp (front) areas, as these high-flex zones benefit most from conditioning.

Important Note:  To ensure your boots remain eligible for a return or exchange within the first 30 days of delivery, please only oil and condition your boots if you are certain the sizing is correct. Oiling the boots within this initial period will void any return or exchange.

  2. Start Slow and Steady: Begin by wearing your boots for short periods around the house or on errands. Gradually increase wearing time as they soften and conform to your feet. Incorporate light hiking on varied terrain to encourage natural flexing.

  3. Sock-Up:  Wear thick, moisture-wicking socks to reduce friction and prevent blisters. JK Boots suggests a specific lacing technique: lace to the top, tie a knot, then tuck the laces in. This helps lock in your heel and reduce slippage, a common cause of blisters.

  4. Address Discomfort: If you experience discomfort or hot spots, address them promptly. Use moleskin or other padding to protect those areas. Don't hesitate to contact our customer support team for personalized advice.

  5. Heat and Moisture: Consider wearing your boots in warm, slightly damp conditions (like after a light rain) to expedite the break-in. This helps the leather soften and conform to your feet more quickly. However, avoid soaking the leather or exposing it to excessive heat.

  6. Boot Stretchers and Stretching Spray:  As a last resort, consider using a boot stretcher and stretching spray to target specific areas that need additional loosening. Prioritize natural break-in methods whenever possible.

  7. Be Patient: Breaking in JK Boots takes time and dedication. Don't get discouraged if they feel stiff initially. With consistent wear and proper care, they will soften and become your most trusted companions.
